Before India was an Independent nation and most Indians were living hand to mouth; the Khimji family was contributing to the economic development of the nation and building a business empire. Shri BHANJI D KHIMJI laid the foundation of their business legacy by establishing a cotton mill in Hubli in 1905. This pioneering initiative marked the beginning of a empire that would shape future generations. Building upon this foundation, Shri BHANJI D KHIMJI, expanded the family enterprise into cotton ginning and pressing, further solidifying their presence in the industrial landscape of Hubli.

1942
Early years

Shri Bharat Bhai Khimji, born in 1942, was born in an entrepreneurial environment. He drew early inspiration from his upbringing and collaborated with his brother, Shri Hiralal Khimji, at Akay Industries in Hubli during his formative years. It was here that the seeds of innovation were sown, eventually leading to the birth of VALVEs and PUMPs empire.

1975
Foundation of BDK Process Equipment (NOW KFEL) Valves

BDK Process Equipment (NOW KFEL) was founded at a pivotal time in India’s industrial history. At a juncture when imported valves dominated the market amidst a challenging industrial environment, Shri Bharat Bhai Khimji’s visionary outlook propelled him to establish the first valves and pumps manufacturing company in India. This bold initiative not only cemented BBK's reputation as an entrepreneur and industrialist but also was the original 'Make in India' product, a testament to his commitment to indigenous manufacturing.

1990 - 2000s
Exponential growth

Over the years, BDK Process Equipment (NOW KFEL) has evolved into an internationally recognized brand synonymous with cutting-edge technology, cost efficiency, and prompt delivery. Its journey from a nascent startup to an industry leader mirrors the growth trajectory of the city and the nation, making a lasting impact on the industrial landscape of Hubli in specific and India in general.

2010 - 2020s
Giving Back to Society

KFEL (Formerly BDK Process Equipment) and Shri Bharat Bhai himself have had various accolades and recognitions during their journey focusing on developing the best product in the market. The company has received the Export award – for 10 years continuously. Shri Bharat Bhai Khimji was awarded the Vanijya Ratna in 2009 by the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce. KFEL (Formerly BDK Process Equipment) as a company has been responsible for developing the town of Hubli into the valve town of India. Today it has over 200 valve manufacturing vendors. This has led to Hubli being a global export destination for Valves, Pumps, and Actuator, with exports of over INR 7000 Crore.

1970 Onwards
CSR and Philanthropic activities

The Khimji family believe in their connection with the community. Shri Bharat Bhai Khimji belongs to the Kuchchi Das Oswal community of Gujarat and has been community president for 50 years. The family’s engagement lies beyond their community. They run the Lifeline Hospital in Hubli which focuses on Cancer research. As a part of the youth outreach BDK Sports Foundation has quarterly Cricket tournaments and various sports training programs.
